What is Total Legacy? A Human Centered Approach to Preserving What Matters Most
One of the reasons we built Total Legacy is because we realized the way we approach legacy is broken.
We learned this from a simple but telling fact: a study by Ancestry found that 53 percent of Americans can not name all four of their grandparents. That is how we knew something was wrong.
We saw it firsthand with one of our clients. She sat down with her grandmother, who was in her 90s, to capture the story of all the people leaving their town to fight in World War II, including her grandfather. It was a moment of connection and history that might have been lost forever if it had not been recorded.
Why Total Legacy was Built
For most families, legacy planning has focused solely on legal documents, estate plans, and financial assets. Those matter, but they have often come at the expense of people and their stories.
Today, most legacy work is done manually. It lives in paper files, sticky notes, and boxes in the attic. If you’ve ever experienced a house fire or water damage, you know how fragile those things can be.
Others rely on email to store letters and messages, but email is not designed for privacy, permanence, or family legacy preservation. Too often, those messages are scanned, read, and even used in advertising.
